The top five companies accounted for 19% of patenting activity
Analysis of patenting activity by companies shows that Johnson & Johnson filed the most metaverse patents within the medical industry in Q2 2024. The company filed 25 metaverse-related patents in the quarter, compared with 36 in the previous quarter. It was followed by Abbott Laboratories with 20 metaverse patent filings, Medtronic (12 filings), and Globus Medical (9 filings) in Q2 2024.
Patenting activity was driven by the US with a 37% share of total patent filings
The largest share of metaverse related patent filings in the medical industry in Q2 2024 was in the US with 37%, followed by Japan (9%) and China (9%). The share represented by the US was 3% lower than the 40% share it accounted for in Q1 2024.
