Healthcare Practitioners and Technical Occupations, with a share of 15%, was the occupation with the greatest hiring activity in the global medical industry in Q1 2024, ahead of Management Occupations with an 11% share of job postings.

The other prominent roles include Computer and Mathematical Occupations with a 6% share in Q1 2024, Office and Administrative Support Occupations with a 7% share and Architecture and Engineering Occupations with a 5% share of new job postings.

Top five companies in medical industry accounted for 33% of hiring activity

The top five companies, in terms of number of new job postings tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined 33% share of the overall hiring activity in the global medical industry in Q1 2024.

TotalMed Systems posted 23,391 jobs in Q1 2024 and registered a growth of 53% over the previous quarter, followed by Abbott Laboratories with 5,846 jobs and a 28% growth. Laboratory Corp of America Holdings with 5,384 jobs and Heinen + Lowenstein with 5,229 jobs, recorded a 21% growth and a 79% rise, respectively, while Thermo Fisher Scientific recorded a 1% drop with 4,874 job postings during Q1 2024.

Hiring activity was driven by North America with a 64% share of total new job postings, Q1 2024

North America held the leading share of the new job postings in the global medical industry with a 64% share, a 2% lower over Q4 2023. Europe stood next with 21%, registering a 41% growth over the previous quarter.

Asia-Pacific with a 12% share marked a 47% rise over Q4 2023. The South & Central America and Middle East & Africa accounted for shares of 20% and 6% respectively.
