A recently granted patent (Publication Number: US11730943B2) describes a device for vascular access hemostasis. The device includes an enclosure that partially receives a medical device and defines a cavity. It also has a first seal portion and a second seal portion, with the cavity located between them. The second seal portion is made up of three or more discrete portions, each separated by split lines. These discrete portions have mating surfaces with a surface topology consisting of raised portions and depressions.
The first seal portion of the device includes an inwardly sloped portion with an outer surface. A hydrophilic layer is disposed on this outer surface. The first seal portion of the device can be a hole seal or a ring seal. The second seal portion is held in compression by a mating housing. The mating surface of the device includes a portion with the surface topology of raised portions and depressions, as well as a substantially flat portion.
In addition to the device, the patent also describes a sealing device. This device includes an enclosure that compressively interfaces with a housing, a first seal portion with an opening, and a second seal portion. The second seal portion is divided into three or more discrete portions by a split along a split plane.
