Emerging Applications for Metal Injection Molding (MIM) in Surgical Instruments and Implants

By Indo-MIM

The drive for less invasive surgical techniques requires highly complex part geometries that are traditionally manufactured from wrought metal bar by costly multi-axis milling, turning and EDM techniques. Metal injection molding is now challenging these traditional metalworking processes as a viable and cost-effective alternative.

Metal injection molding (MIM) is a mainstream manufacturing process that combines the design flexibility of plastic injection molding with the strength and integrity of wrought metals to offer cost effective solutions for highly complex part geometries. Today, MIM components are used in extremely demanding and critical applications including gas turbine engines, surgical instruments and surgical implants.
