The Product Launches award was secured for the strategic and successful introduction of the TMINI System, which demonstrated adaptability and market demand by rapidly expanding its Implant Data Hub (ID-HUB™) and securing key partnerships within a tight regulatory timeline.

THINK Surgical’s TMINI Miniature Robotic System represents a significant leap forward in robotic knee surgery. The system’s miniature, handheld, wireless design is a first in the U.S. market, providing a level of maneuverability and ease of use that traditional, larger robotic systems cannot match. The design allows surgeons to maintain the tactile feedback they rely on during procedures while benefiting from the precision of robotic assistance. 

The proprietary 6-camera overhead active tracking system is a technological breakthrough that enhances the TMINI System’s functionality. By reducing ‘line of sight’ issues, surgeons can maintain focus on the procedure without worrying about obstructions that could interfere with the robot’s tracking capabilities. The system continuously and accurately monitors surgical instruments, which is critical for achieving the desired outcomes in knee surgery. 

The TMINI PRO™ Workflow is another cornerstone of the system’s innovation. It provides surgeons with the ability to make intraoperative adjustments, offering real-time feedback and the flexibility to refine implant positioning during the surgery. The adaptability of the system is crucial for addressing the unique anatomical needs of each patient, leading to better stability and fit of the knee implant.

Strategic product launch: The TMINI Miniature Robotic System

The strategic launch of the TMINI System was executed with precision, mirroring the system’s own operational accuracy. THINK Surgical successfully navigated the complex landscape of regulatory clearances, securing an initial FDA 510(k) clearance in May 2023 for use with a single implant partner. This milestone was quickly followed by the first use of the system in September 2023, and subsequent special 510(k) clearances that expanded the number of compatible implant partners to six by August 2024. 

The collaboration with Zimmer Biomet in June 2024 marked a significant expansion of the system’s reach, further demonstrating THINK Surgical’s commitment to establishing strong industry partnerships. The release of the TMINI System version 1.1 in July 2024 included a software update that introduced substantial enhancements, showcasing the company’s dedication to continuous improvement and innovation.

The rapid expansion of the Implant Data Hub (ID-HUB) to include multiple implant partners reflects THINK Surgical’s adaptability and responsiveness to market needs. By designing a system that meets the requirements of both high-volume hospitals and outpatient surgery centers, THINK Surgical has effectively broadened its market reach.
