The global medical industry noticed a 9.3% drop in IT hiring activity in September 2022 over the previous month, led by Thermo Fisher Scientific’s 9.43% share, according to GlobalData’s Jobs Analytics database.

The medical industry’s overall hiring activity declined 1.46% when compared with August 2022.

Noticeably, IT jobs accounted for a 7.56% share of the global medical industry’s hiring activity in September 2022, down 0.95% over the last three-month average share.

According to GlobalData, IT job opportunities available at the end of September 2022 were 4.5% lower when compared with the previous month.

The decrease was a result of 10.92% higher job postings as compared to job closures during the month.

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers drive medical IT hiring activity

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers with a share of 51.72% emerged as the top IT occupation in the medical hiring activity in September 2022, a 1.73% growth over the previous month. Computer Support Specialists came in second with a share of 13.26% in September 2022, up 5.49% over the previous month.

The other prominent IT roles include Database and Network Administrators and Architects with a 13.18% share in September 2022, a decline of 19.44% over the previous month, and Computer and Information Analysts with an 11.07% share in September 2022 and a drop of 2.03% over August 2022.

Top five medical companies by recruitment activity in September 2022

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average decline of 6.27% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of global medical industry during September 2022 over August 2022.

Thermo Fisher Scientific posted 246 IT jobs in September 2022 and registered a drop of 2.38% over the previous month, followed by Arjo with 146 jobs and a 37.74% growth. Medtronic with 136 IT jobs and Danaher with 107 jobs, recorded a 4.23% decline and a 26.71% drop, respectively, while Koninklijke Philips recorded a 27.94% drop with 98 job postings during September 2022.

Regional composition of IT hiring in medical industry

North America emerged as the leading region in the global medical IT hiring activity in September 2022 with a 56.74% share, which marked a 3.77% drop over the previous month.

Europe stood next with 21.3%, registering a 2.96% month-on-month growth. Asia-Pacific was the third leading region with a 19.66% share and a 3.64% rise over August 2022.

In the fourth place was South & Central America with a share of 1.46% and a month-on-month drop of 5%. Middle East & Africa stood at the bottom of the table with a share of 0.84%, registering a 22.22% increase over the previous month.
