J M Longyear subsidiary Able Medical Devices has introduced its stainless-steel Valkyrie Looped Sternotomy Sutures.

The Valkyrie Looped Sternotomy Sutures are designed for closing a patient’s chest after open-heart surgery.

They offer more robust sternal closure compared to traditional wire sutures and double the surface area of single wires.

The 14in sutures are available in 48mm and 55mm sizes and can be fitted with three different needle configurations.

Able Medical managing director Peter Didyk said: “We are thrilled to offer another integral part to sternal closure at an affordable price to hospitals.

“Offering high-quality sutures at low prices is a win for patients and healthcare providers alike.”

The company stated that the new Valkyrie Looped Sutures complement its Valkyrie Thoracic Fixation System. The products combine for a complete closure portfolio.

The sutures can work in conjunction with the thoracic fixation system and are designed to stabilise and fix chest wall fractures.

This includes post-sternotomy sternal fixation as well as surgical procedures involving sternal reconstruction for patients who have normal and/or poor bone, said Able Medical.

Able Medical senior programme manager Katie Barron said: “Our focus has been getting great products to market in a timely manner.

“The looped sutures offer surgeons an alternative to traditional wire without changing their traditional closure technique.”

Headquartered in the US, the company specialises in developing complete surgical systems and custom instruments. It also provides several services and capabilities for the orthopaedic and medical device industry.

Able Medical collaborates with companies focused on growth-based portfolios that seek outsourced services from design and development to the complete manufacturing of finished goods.
