Medical device contract manufacturer Biomerics has completed a 100,000ft² expansion of its operations in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota, US.

With the expansion, the facility now has a total area of 170,000ft².

This investment enables the consolidation of multiple facilities and expands the company’s engineering Centers of Excellence for extrusions, laser processing, catheters, steerables and final assembly operations.

Biomerics is expected to become the only completely integrated medical tubing manufacturer in the interventional device market through vertical integration.

The integration also marks the launch of the company’s newest Center of Excellence, Biomerics Advanced Materials & Tubing.

The facility expansion includes a 20,000ft² space for micro metals laser processing and a 24,000ft² space for complex extrusion processing.

It also includes 10,000ft² for advanced catheter processing and 2,000ft² of space for cleanrooms.

The new space will enable the company to triple extrusion output in the coming five years to meet the increased customer demand for medical catheters and extrusions.

Meanwhile, the collaboration between Brooklyn Park’s extrusion and catheter teams and Biomerics’ custom polyurethane manufacturing team in Salt Lake City, Utah, combines engineering expertise in medical tubing materials and compounds.

Biomerics CEO Travis Sessions said: “This investment says a lot about the performance of these combining teams, our markets that we manufacture for and our commitment to delivering the latest innovation in the medical device manufacturing industry.

“The expansion will continue to fuel our growth with best-in-class speed-to-market capabilities.”

The company’s main facility in Brooklyn Park is involved in the designing, development and production of complex, specialised catheters, steerable devices and delivery systems to cater to the interventional device market.
