PTC will supply a cloud product development platform to Withings for its home urine monitoring product. The Onshape CAD system will aid design of the home urine monitoring solution U-Scan.
U-Scan was launched at CES 2023 by Withings to bring accessible urine testing into the home. It sits within the toilet bowl and analyses urine via cartridges. The company has announced two consumer cartridges: U-Scan Cycle Sync (which tracks menstrual cycles) and U-Scan Nutri Balance (which gives a metabolic guide to hydration and nutrition).

U-Scan will use hormonal levels to show cycle predictions and ovulation windows. The Nutri Balance will send analysis of specific gravity, pH, vitamin C and ketone levels to an accompanying app. Having changeable cartridge analysers removes the need for strips and the device’s placement in a toilet removes the need for external sample capture.
U-Scan is yet to receive FDA clearance, but the company said the product may be available in Europe by Q2 2023, and debut in high street retailers and the Withings’ website. The company added that medical cartridges will join the consumer lineup pending regulatory approvals in Europe.
The Onshape CAD system from PTC will streamline further development changes by centralising design on a cloud platform. PTC has been working with Withings since 2019, and the continuation of the partnership to U-Scan will streamline design efficiency and ultimately increase speed to market.
“PTC’s cloud-native platform means engineers no longer have to waste time worrying about data management and can spend most of their time focusing on design,” said Manon Navellou, head of mechanics at Withings.
