US-based Omron Healthcare has introduced an over-the-counter (OTC) Omron HEAT Pain Pro device to relieve acute muscle and joint pain.

The OTC medical device uses a combination of heat and transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) technology to enhance the therapy efficacy.

The TENS technology issues stimulating pulses across the surface of the skin and along the nerve strands which block pain signals from reaching the brain.

An electrical stimulation can also lead to the release of endorphins, which act as natural painkillers.
