Olympus Corporation has launched its Soltive Gemini 60W Laser System in the US, targeting kidney stone management and soft tissue procedures.
The thulium fibre laser platform features StoneSense technology, which halts laser emission when the surgical fibre is not pointed at a stone, helping reduce the likelihood of mucosal tissue injury during endoscopic fragmentation.

The commercial rollout coincides with rising rates of kidney stones across the American population.
Olympus executive officer and surgical and interventional solutions division head Seiji Kuramoto said: “Olympus is driven to bring new innovation to the market, providing physicians with the tools to help them meet their clinical goals.
“As part of our commitment to patient focus, we are excited to launch Soltive Gemini, which offers flexibility to tailor energy delivery.
“The advanced technology featured in Olympus’ newest thulium fibre laser platform offers clinicians versatility and control to help provide their patients with the best possible care.”
The equipment incorporates six distinct pulse options. The Continuous Wave mode is intended for steady laser delivery during tissue coagulation and vapourisation.
Enucleation Pulse establishes a consistent coagulation boundary to improve haemostasis compared with standard thulium pulses, followed by Fragmentation Pulse to ablate stones into large fragments.
The Minimal Carbonisation Pulse mode limits tissue charring during excision and incision, while Minimal Retropulsion Pulse Mode restricts stone movement during the treatment of stones smaller than 5mm.
Regular is another mode, which provides a flat-top pulse for lithotripsy and soft tissue work.
An additional Guided Mode, formulated alongside international endourology specialists, assists clinicians in choosing operational parameters for stone, soft tissue, and benign prostatic hyperplasia interventions.
Clinical use is restricted to healthcare professionals trained in laser safety who have studied the accompanying instructions for use.
In March 2026, Olympus launched its VISERA ELITE III surgical imaging platform in the US, developed to improve visualisation during surgery, streamline workflow efficiency, and provide flexibility for a range of specialities.
