Philips has introduced the eV14-2v transvaginal transducer, an addition to its ultrasound range for obstetrics and gynaecology.
The device has received 510(k) clearance from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and a CE mark. It is intended to cover a range of gynaecology and early obstetrics examinations using a single lightweight transducer.

Philips said the eV14-2v offers a 41.7% increase in penetration, 10% in 2D resolution, a 15.8% improvement in field of view, along with a 22% lighter design.

The transducer uses PureWave crystal technology, which has an ergonomic design aimed at user comfort during scanning.
Philips said the probe supports visualisation of anatomy relevant to assessing infertility and pelvic pain linked to conditions including endometriosis and fibroids.
According to the company, its 2D and colour resolution can support detection of foetal abnormalities, with the ability to delineate cardiac chambers in a foetus as early as 13 weeks, when the heart is the size of a single corn kernel.
The eV14-2v can also be used with Philips Collaboration Live, which allows remote clinicians to view live images and offer guidance during an examination without the patient travelling.
