Rockley Photonics has begun sampling the complete Bioptx Biosensing Band and Platform to strategic customers and partners for non-invasive health monitoring continuously.

The platform integrates the company’s short-wave infrared (SWIR) biosensing technology, which is based on its photonic integrated circuit (PIC) chipset.

Rockley has demonstrated continuous spectral data collection by integrating a SWIR spectrophotometer into a wearable device capable of several days of measurement. This integration provides insights into tissue composition and dynamics.

The platform offers real-time streaming of body temperature and hydration biomarkers based on SWIR, along with LED-based photoplethysmography (PPG) biomarkers of heart rate, heart rate variability, blood oxygen saturation and respiratory rate.

Paired with the newly launched Rockley Developer API, this platform serves as a seamless solution for real-time monitoring of key physiologic parameters.

Rockley Photonics CEO and chairman Dr Andrew Rickman said: “Rockley has created the full technology stack from the design of the PIC, which forms the miniature spectrophotometer, to the full wearable integration and novel biomarker delivery.

“We have significantly progressed the SWIR-tissue measurement science and biomarker algorithms through IRB-approved human studies.

“As we have recently demonstrated with our non-invasive glucose sensing and cuffless blood pressure studies, laser-based biosensors will continue to expand and enhance our understanding of human health.”

In March 2022, Rockley Photonics announced a partnership with Medtronic for the development of next-generation healthcare monitoring devices.

The collaboration was aimed at adding Rockley’s new Bioptx biomarker sensing platform to Medtronic’s solutions for several healthcare settings.

Rockley is focused on the development of a range of photonic integrated circuits, sensors, and full-stack solutions.
