Horizontal laminar flow workstations function in exactly the same way as the commonly used vertical benches – however, in this configuration air passes from the rear of the unit horizontally through the open face.

The fan filter unit is oriented on the rear wall and drags air from behind the unit, via a G4 pre-filter, through the fan and over the H14 HEPA filter, directing air towards the operator.

The majority of cleanrooms are designed with vertical airflow, however, some utilise horizontal flow and these units suit those environments particularly well by working with the airflow pattern of the room rather than creating unwanted turbulence.

Horizontal workstations do not suit applications using hazardous or unpleasant chemicals as the fumes would be directed toward the operator.
