Iceni Diagnostics is developing a test to rapidly differentiate between flu and Covid-19 infection.
The lateral flow test is designed to identify the presence of a live virus from a throat swab and give a clear diagnostic response within 15 minutes. It is also being developed to be mass-produced, with ambitions that it be used in non-medical settings like pubs and airports to ensure everyone is infection-free upon entry.

Iceni Diagnostics chairman Dr Berwyn Clarke said: “We are anticipating the tests being ready for trialling this autumn ahead of the clinical validation that is required to meet the stringent standards that are demanded by the NHS and other bodies. We hope it will be available early in the New Year in time for the higher incidence of flu.”
Iceni Diagnostics already offers a point-of-care technology that can differentiate between different types of flu.
