Global: The global coronavirus death toll is 1,044,490 according to researchers at Johns Hopkins University. Covid-19 infections exceed 35.5 million world wide. Some 10% of the world’s population may have been infected with Covid-19, according to Mike Ryan, head of the World Health Organization’s emergencies program.

US: Covid-19 infections exceed 7.4 million, meanwhile, the US coronavirus death toll is 210,195 according to researchers at Johns Hopkins University.

Donald Trump has left Walter Reed hospital and returned to the White House. Trump’s personal physician said the president was “not entirely be out of the woods yet.”

White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany says in tweet that she tested positive for coronavirus on Monday morning.

Covid-19 is spreading again across most of the US. In 34 states, the seven-day average of new cases is higher now than it was a month ago.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott plans to announce additional relaxation of anti-virus rules just weeks after he first began easing restrictions.

Mexico: Mexico saw a record increase in deaths and daily cases on Monday jumping by 2,789 and 28,115 respectively. However,  the deputy health minister dismissed it as a one-off event caused by a new method of classifying infections.

Germany: Germany’s confirmed cases increased by 2,639 to 303,258, according to the Robert Koch Institute for infectious diseases on Tuesday.

China: China had 12 new Covid-19 cases on the mainland on Monday, down from 20 the day before.

Vaccine news

US: The FDA said it has worked to make clear to Covid-19 vaccine developers what standards would have to be met to authorize use of shots. One such path is an emergency-use authorization, or EUA, a fast-track procedure that relies on less safety and efficacy data than a full approval.

Lockdown updates

Hong Kong: Chief Executive Carrie Lam said there would be “no further relaxation” of coronavirus measures, as authorities continue to find infections of unknown origin. More than half of local cases recorded since Sept. 30 were of unknown origin, a development Lam described as “worrying.”

UK: MPs in Britain are expected to rebel this week during votes on pandemic curbs. The votes come amid anger at a data blunder that has left officials scrambling to trace 50,000 Covid contacts.

Ireland: Ireland’s government moved to tighten coronavirus restrictions across the country, but rejected proposals from health officials for a full lockdown of the country. Instead, the country will move to level 3 on a five point scale of restrictions. The move means restaurants will only be allowed serve take out, while bars that don’t serve food must close. Ireland reported 518 newly confirmed cases on Monday.

APAC: Japan and South Korea plan to open business travel between the two countries this week. Papua New Guinea is opening its borders to people from four countries including Japan and Singapore.

Economy updates

Vietnam: About 31.8 million Vietnamese have suffered economically this year through September because of the coronavirus epidemic, according to a survey by the General Statistics Office.

Asia: Stock markets in Asia have recovered some lost ground after Trump’s positive comments about his health. The FTSE100 in London is expected to open up about 0.2%.

China: China and 25 other countries have called for the immediate lifting of sanctions imposed by the United States and western countries in order to help targeted countries recover from the pandemic.
