Southern Spine, a manufacturer of spinal implants and instruments, has introduced a new minimally invasive system for use in lumbar fusion procedures.

The FDA-approved and CE-marked StabiLink MIS spinal fixation system is designed to provide spinal fixation in lumbar fusion procedures as a treatment for degenerative disc disease, spinal tumors and trauma.

The system features an all-in-one precision-guided inserter and compressor, which enables it to be implanted without the removal of interspinous ligaments.

The implant is designed to placed away from neural elements such as the spinal cord and nerves, through a 2cm – 4cm incision in the back.

It has also been developed with a lower procedure time than other systems, as insertion does not require the use additonal instruments such as compressors.

Southern Spine CEO David Field said the system can be used as a treatment for various spinal conditions with less tissue trauma than traditional spinal fixation systems.

“Patients and surgeons are demanding procedures that fill the void between non-surgical spine treatments and the more traditional, invasive spinal fusion procedures,” Field said.

“The StabiLink MIS spinal fixation system successfully addresses this ‘void’ in treatment options for many patients and surgeons.”
