This 50,000ft² facility is designed for the assembly of minimally invasive catheters intended for vascular and structural heart therapies, electrophysiology, as well as other precision medical devices.
The facility currently houses three ISO 7 cleanrooms and is planned for expansion into a 100,000ft² site over the next three years.
Freudenberg Medical said the expansion would significantly increase its existing manufacturing footprint in Costa Rica.
Its initial 30,000ft² facility will continue to focus on primary processing technologies such as precision moulding and extrusion of thermoplastics. Meanwhile, assembly operations will be transferred to the new site.

By GlobalDataFreudenberg Medical CEO Michael McGee said: “Costa Rica has become a cornerstone of our global operations over the past decade.
“With this new facility, we are expanding our capability to deliver high-quality, cost-effective medical technology solutions on a large scale, while staying close to our customers and supporting their long-term growth.”
Freudenberg Medical started construction on the new site in February 2024. It incorporates advanced digital technologies to support its expansion in Costa Rica.
The company is integrating AI and virtual reality (VR) into its training and production processes.
VR is used for operator training in environments that simulate actual production conditions, while AI helps in production layout planning.
According to the company, the integration would enhance production processes and operator training, as well as simplify technology transfers across its vertically integrated network.
Freudenberg Medical Costa Rica VP and general manager Róger Gómez said: “This new facility underlines Freudenberg Medical’s confidence in Costa Rica as an integral part of our global growth strategy.
“In the next three years, we will grow our team from 350 to over 900 employees.
“Committed to diversity and inclusion, we offer equal opportunities to all, while providing meaningful careers in a growing industry that improves lives around the world.”
