Beacon is a sterilization-packaging manufacturer for the medical device and pharmaceutical industry, creating specialized sterilizable packaging systems from hundreds of possible material combinations.

Terminally sterilized medical device flexible packaging

Beacon has been an active participant in the evolution of the sterilization packaging industry, and is a founding member of the Sterilization Packaging Manufacturers Council (SPMC).

Products for preformed sterile barrier systems include:

  • Peelable pouches and non-peelable pouches
  • Header bags
  • Rollstock
  • Lidding
  • Die cut insert cards

Peelable pouches and non-peelable pouches

Pouches, primarily used for terminally-sterilized medical devices, can be designed for all conventional sterilization methods. They are available as peelable pouches or non-peelable pouches, with several types of opening features.

Peelable pouches and non-peelable pouches are primarily used for terminally sterilized medical devices.
Beacon header bags provide protective packaging, often used as a second barrier for trays, or for packaging and sterilizing bulky devices.
Lidding materials are sold in a variety of forms depending on the application: rollstock and lidstock, in rectangular or custom die cut shapes.
Formed from medical-grade plastic, custom die-cut insert cards can hold one or many medical devices securely in place within a pouch, providing a cost-effective means to organize the sterilization packaging system.
Beacon offers the most advanced medical-grade materials, including Dupont Tyvek, single and multilayer films, medical grade paper, and laminations containing foil, paper and film.

Beacon’s pouches employ clear or opaque medical-grade packaging materials that include Dupont™ Tyvek®, aluminum foil, PET, nylon, paper, polyethylene films, and specialized barrier materials. Pouches are available in a wide range of shapes and sizes and can be custom printed with up to four colors, and fabricated up to 36in wide and 100in long.

Header bags

Header bags are commonly used for packaging and sterilizing bulky devices or as a second barrier layer for trays. Beacon header bags are custom made of a polymer film with the required degree of toughness, and a coated Dupont Tyvek header strip for breathability.

The films include coextrusions designed for strength and clarity, as well as cost-effective light gauge polyethylene for less demanding applications. Custom sizes from 2in to 99in in width, and 3in to 34in in length, are available.

Heat-sealed lidding

Lidding materials, heat sealed to a thermoformed tray containing a sterilizable medical device, provided an aseptic opening feature while facilitating sterilization. Beacon lidding materials are sold in a variety of forms, depending on the application, including rollstock and lidstock in rectangular or custom die cut shapes. They can be manufactured from materials including coated Dupont Tyvek and foil laminations.

Die-cut insert cards

Custom die cut insert cards are a cost-effective alternative to ridged tray packaging. Formed from medical-grade plastic, custom die-cut insert cards can hold one or many medical devices securely in place, eliminating the need for bulkier, more expensive packaging options.

Rollstock, typically used on automatic pouch-making machines is available in Dupont Tyvek, paper, film, metalized film and foil combinations. Provided in master rolls, the rollstock can be coated, printed, perforated and or slit down to smaller rolls.

Protective packaging is available for all preformed sterile barrier systems.
