A recently granted patent (Publication Number: US11986226B2) discloses a bone plate design featuring a pair of lobed portions with through-holes for fasteners and a central linking portion. The lobed portions have a unique cross-sectional thickness that decreases continuously from the central linking portion towards the ends, with a maximum thickness of approximately 1.5-2.3 mm at the junction with the central linking portion and a minimum thickness of approximately 1.3-1.7 mm in the central linking portion.

Furthermore, the bone plate design includes features such as an arched cross-sectional profile for each lobed portion, with the lower surface having a greater radius of curvature than the upper surface. Additionally, the lower surface of each lobed portion is inclined towards the upper surface away from the central linking portion. The bone plate is symmetrical about a plane across the center of the central linking portion, with rounded perimetral edges and a flat upper surface in the central linking portion while other surfaces are curved. The maximum thickness of the bone plate is specified to be between one-twelfth to one-eighth of the maximum length of the bone plate, ensuring structural integrity while minimizing bulkiness.
