A recently granted patent (Publication Number: US11925761B2) discloses a conduit headgear designed for delivering pressurized air to a patient for the treatment of sleep-disordered breathing. The headgear includes at least one air delivery conduit with a tubular air passageway that extends from adjacent to or under the patient's nose, over the patient's cheeks, and between the patient's eye and ear. The tubular air passageway is contained within a spacer fabric, which consists of a first outer layer oriented towards the patient's skin, a second outer layer oriented away from the skin, and an inner pile layer between them. The inner pile layer forms the tubular air passageway and acts as an air filter for the pressurized air conveyed to the patient.

Furthermore, the conduit headgear features a sealing layer coated on the spacer fabric to ensure airtightness, with the sealing layer typically comprising silicone. The spacer fabric is thermoformed using a heat-deformable material to give it a curved shape, enhancing comfort and fit for the patient. The design also includes a textile cover portion enclosing the spacer fabric, with the cover portion having an outer textile layer and an inner air impermeable laminate layer. The inner pile layer within the spacer fabric varies in pile density along its width to create channels or lumens for conveying pressurized air, with occlusion-resistant columns of pile material separating these channels. Overall, the conduit headgear aims to provide effective treatment for sleep-disordered breathing by delivering pressurized air in a comfortable and efficient manner.
