North America’s medical devices industry saw a drop of 22.52% in deal activity during July 2022, when compared with the last 12-month average, led by Amazon.com’s $3.9bn acquisition of 1Life Healthcare, according to GlobalData’s deals database.

A total of 86 medical devices industry deals worth $8.6bn were announced for the region in July 2022, against the 12-month average of 111 deals.

Of all the deal types, venture financing saw most activity in July 2022 with 57 transactions, representing a 66.3% share for the region.

In second place was M&A with 24 deals, followed by private equity deals with five transactions, respectively capturing a 27.9% and 5.8% share of the overall deal activity for the month.

In terms of value of deals, M&A was the leading category in North America’s medical devices industry with $4.63bn, while private equity and venture financing deals totalled $2.85bn and $1.15bn, respectively.

The top five medical devices deals accounted for 86% of the overall value during July 2022.

The combined value of the top five medical devices deals stood at $7.42bn, against the overall value of $8.6bn recorded for the month.
