North America’s medical industry IT hiring activity drops 4.1% in December 2021

North America witnessed a 4.1% drop in IT hiring activity in the medical industry in December 2021 when compared with the previous month, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics dashboard.

December 2021 has seen a decrease of 5.88% in the overall hiring activity when compared with November 2021.

IT jobs accounted for a 9.01% share in the industry’s total hiring activity in December 2021, registering an increase of 0.02% over the last three-month average share.

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers Occupations leads by classification in December 2021

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers Occupations emerged as the leading IT occupation in North America with a share of 62.44% in December 2021, a 1.88% drop over the previous month. Database and Network Administrators and Architects came in next, claiming a share of 10.34% in December 2021, marking a 16.61% month-on-month decline. In the third place was Miscellaneous Computer Occupations with a share of 8.61% in December 2021, a 7.93% drop from November 2021.

Computer Support Specialists registered a share of 8.53% in December 2021, an 18.29% rise over the previous month.

Top five medical companies in North America’s IT recruitment activity in December 2021

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average decline of 12.91% in the overall IT recruitment activity of North America’s medical industry during December 2021 over previous month.

Sonova posted 202 IT jobs in December 2021 and registered a decline of 1.46% over the previous month, followed by Becton Dickinson and with 130 jobs and a 0.78% growth. Thermo Fisher Scientific with 94 IT jobs and Medtronic with 81 jobs, recorded a 43.03% drop and a 20.59% drop, respectively, while Stryker recorded a 9.59% increase with 80 job postings during December 2021.

Country-wise composition of IT hiring in North America’s medical industry

The US commanded a leading presence in the region’s medical industry IT hiring activity with a 94.44% share in December 2021, a 1.63% decrease over November 2021. Canada featured next with a 4.7% share, down 25.49% over the previous month. Mexico recorded a 0.86% share, a drop of 25% compared with November 2021.

Junior Level job postings dominate in December 2021

Junior Level jobs held a share of 58.2%, down by 5.67% from November 2021. Mid Level positions with a 25.16% share, registered a growth of 0.66% compared with the previous month.

In the third place was Entry Level job ads with 16.35% share, up 0.25% over November 2021, while Senior postings accounted for 0.29%, recording a month-on-month decline of 36.36%.
