Private equity company DW Healthcare Partners (DWHP) has announced the sale of DermLite, a developer and manufacturer of dermoscopy tools.

DermLite will be sold to EMZ Partners’ portfolio company FotoFinder Systems, a global innovator in skin cancer detection technology.

The companies have not disclosed the financial terms of the deal.

DermLite is a portfolio company of DWHP’s Founders Fund and develops advanced dermoscopy equipment.

These tools, including dermatoscopes and phone adapters, are instrumental for healthcare professionals in diagnosing skin cancer and other skin conditions by utilising magnification lenses and LED lighting.

DermLite president John Bottjer said: “DermLite and FotoFinder are two complementary businesses that together create a strong global player in skin imaging and dermoscopy.”

DermLite chief product officer Thorsten Trotzenberg said: “We would like to thank the team at DWHP for their support over the last three years. They have been excellent partners and have made significant contributions to the continued growth and success at DermLite.”

Germany-based FotoFinder is engaged in developing Automated Total Body Mapping, artificial intelligence, and digital dermoscopy for early detection of skin cancer.

The company has subsidiaries in the UK, the US, and Italy, as well as a network spanning more than 90 countries.

DWHP managing director Gabe Becher said: “We are honoured to have played a role in the DermLite success story and be a steward of this wonderful brand. We are excited to watch the company continue to thrive in its next chapter with FotoFinder and EMZ.”

Earlier this year, DWHP completed its investment in Med Learning Group (MLG), which was previously a division of Ultimate Medical Academy.

MLG focuses on developing, implementing, and measuring online and in-person continuing education that improves healthcare practitioners’ ability to provide optimal care to patients.
