Leidos has announced a $10m investment to expedite the AI usage in disease detection and management, in a five-year partnership with the University of Pittsburgh’s Computational Pathology and AI Center of Excellence (CPACE).

The primary focus of this partnership is to develop tools that are powered by AI for rapid disease detection, including cancer and heart conditions, aiming to minimise diagnostic times and allow for earlier treatment.

The collaboration with the University of Pittsburgh will build upon Leidos’ experience in managing the National Cancer Institute’s Frederick National Laboratory for Cancer Research and supporting military families and veterans’ healthcare.

Its main objectives are to establish a research hub, develop digital healthcare solutions, and expedite the worldwide impact of AI-powered digital pathology solutions.

The University of Pittsburgh will continue to improve CPACE and its Digital Pathology Research Center, driving AI diagnostic and digital pathology research.

Leidos aims to deploy the AI-powered solutions across healthcare sectors, spearheading the commercialisation of healthcare technologies.
