JustRight Surgical has signed a licensing agreement with Intuitive Surgical to expand the use of its new laparoscopic surgery technology from paediatric to adult patients.
Under the agreement, Intuitive Surgical will hold the worldwide, exclusive license to JustRight’s intellectual property in energy-based vessel sealing and tissue stapling technologies.
Intuitive Surgical focuses on robotic-assisted minimally invasive surgery and intends to extend the reach of its products into the robotic surgery field through its deal with JustRight.
The agreement also comprises a joint product development and an equity financing arrangement.
JustRight Surgical CEO Robert Kline said: “Our low-power vessel sealing technology and mini mechanical stapler combined with Intuitive Surgical’s minimally invasive expertise will now have the potential to improve safety and outcomes for adult-sized patients undergoing robotic surgery.”
The technology is designed to permanently fuse and seal vessels with the use of significantly less energy, which is considered as an enhanced safety measure during surgical procedures.
