The University of California's San Diego School of Medicine in the US is to use Toshiba Medical's Vantage Galan 3T MR system as part of a collaboration with the company.
The new system will be used as a diagnostic tool in neurology, musculoskeletal (MSK) and non-contrast MRA research.
Equipped with the firm's Saturn gradient technology, the Vantage Galan 3T MR system enhances gradient stability and centre frequency control to ensure consistent image quality.
The system features a PURERF technology that includes an algorithm, which helps in minimising noise at the source, resulting in increased signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and better quality of image.
The increase of SNR to around 20% enables rapid sampling and quick neuro exams when combined with NeuroLine+ that can automatically stack protocol sequences.
Toshiba Medical MR Global Business general manager Hiroyuki Tsujino said: “This advanced research presents an opportunity to determine how Toshiba Medical’s MRI equipment can be used by healthcare providers to safely and effectively diagnose during neuro, MSK and non-contrast MRA procedures, which could ultimately impact a patient’s quality of life in the future.

“We are proud to have the researchers at UC San Diego School of Medicine using our Vantage Galan 3T MR system in these studies, which speaks to Toshiba Medical’s commitment in partnering with healthcare providers to identify the right imaging solutions for complex clinical situations.”
The system also includes a 71cm bore to accommodate patients with wide shoulders or large midsections and a new MR Theater that offers a visual focal point to patients for allowing them to relax.
