Olympus has signed an exclusive global agreement for the distribution of EndoRobotics’ robot-assisted technologies as part of its EndoTherapy portfolio.

The companies will introduce the new endotherapeutic solutions to worldwide markets with initial availability commencing in the US, subject to regulatory approvals and local requirements.

Robot-assisted devices included in the deal are intended to support advanced endoscopic procedures such as endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD).

These procedures allow clinicians to manage early-stage cancers and precancerous lesions in the gastrointestinal tract by removing diseased tissue without organ resection.

EndoRobotics’ technologies are aimed at enhancing precision and efficiency in complex endoscopic tasks; their use is considered significant as rates of gastrointestinal cancers continue to increase globally.

Olympus has stated that the agreement aligns with its wider approach to advancing endoluminal robotics and expanding the range of technologies available for complex therapeutic endoscopy.

The company has indicated that ongoing investment in technological development remains a priority.

Olympus EndoTherapy general manager Mike Callaghan said: “We are pleased to have the opportunity to work with EndoRobotics to advance therapeutic capabilities in GI [gastrointestinal] patient care. This collaboration supports our strategy to broaden the adoption of advanced treatment options such as ESD.

“By offering robot-assisted technologies, we aim to help clinicians perform these complex therapeutic procedures with greater confidence and efficiency while maintaining a strong focus on patient safety and optimising outcomes.”

Both organisations plan to use Olympus’ international commercial network and EndoRobotics’ development expertise to make these endotherapeutic solutions available globally.

Before this, Olympus launched its VISERA ELITE III surgical imaging platform in the US, developed to improve visualisation during surgery, streamline workflow efficiency, and provide flexibility for a range of specialities.
