Digital wound care management technology company Swift Medical has introduced a new medical imaging device, Swift Ray 1, to treat skin and wound conditions.

Claimed to be the world’s first all-in-one hyperspectral imaging device, it attaches wirelessly to a smartphone camera and captures complete clinical data for patients in order to support treatment, assessment and monitoring of skin and wound conditions.

Regardless of skin tone, Swift Ray 1 allows clinicians to treat all patients equally with its imaging capabilities that enable the detection of complications on any skin tone.

It helps to examine the important physiological characteristics of a wound that indicate cause for concern and/or improper healing, such as signs of tissue compromise, inflammation, perfusion, infection, bacterial colonisation and blood oxygen levels.

Using near-infrared, long-wave infrared, ultraviolet and improved RGB imaging technology, the Swift Ray 1 illuminates invisible, beneath-the-skin characteristics.

Swift Medical co-founder and CEO Carlo Perez said: “The future of wound care goes beyond what the naked eye can perceive and beyond the walls of the clinic, which is why our dream has always been to equalise and improve healthcare access for humanity through intelligent diagnostics.

“The Swift Ray 1 gets us one step closer by helping clinicians and patients see below the surface of the skin, to heal wounds faster or prevent them from ever even developing.”

The new device works with the company’s wound management software app.

This allows clinicians to capture and share images of a patient’s wound in order to provide accessible, efficient and preventive care.

The company stated that Swift Ray 1 helps in the identification of wound infections and inhibited wound healing, as well as the early detection of deep tissue injuries and prevention of pressure injuries.

It also supports the monitoring of chronic wound patients remotely in the home.
