Founded in 2010, Essential Medical focuses on the development and commercialisation of vascular closure devices for femoral punctures after diagnostic and interventional cardiac catheterisation procedures.
The acquisition is expected to boost Teleflex’s footprint in structural heart and endovascular aneurysm repair markets with the addition of Essential Medical’s Manta Vascular Closure Device.
Manta is a CE-Marked system designed for the closure of large bore arteriotomies after procedures that involve use of devices or sheaths sized between 10F and 18F.
Teleflex expects the bore closure device to help in addressing closure-related challenges and high costs that come with large interventional procedures such as transcatheter aortic valve replacement, ventricular assist device implantation and endovascular aneurysm repair.
Teleflex president and CEO Liam Kelly said: “We are very excited to announce this acquisition, which expands our presence in the structural heart and endovascular aneurysm repair markets.
“We believe we can leverage our strong presence in the interventional cardiology market to accelerate adoption and growth of this breakthrough technology worldwide.”
So far, Manta has been used in more than 8,100 procedures across various EU countries. The device is anticipated to secure US premarket approval next year.
Essential Medical co-founder, president and CEO Greg Walters said: “The combination of Teleflex and Essential Medical provides an excellent opportunity to maximise physician and patient access to the Manta Vascular Closure Device.”
Apart from vascular and interventional access, Teleflex offers medical solutions for surgical, anaesthesia, cardiac care, urology, emergency medicine and respiratory care areas.
