Over 200 teams from around the world have submitted designs for a rapidly deployable, minimum viable ventilator to Stratasys’s CoVent-19 Challenge.
Seven teams have now been selected to participate in the final round and will begin building prototypes for testing by a team of judges led by a dozen anaesthesiology resident physicians from Massachusetts General Hospital.
The prototypes will be evaluated using a test bed to determine which design provides the best combination performance against safety, reliability, manufacturing, affordability and simplicity. Stratasys aims to announce the winning submission in June, followed by collaborative work to bring the selected prototype to market.
Stratasys chief innovation officer Scott Crump said: “The CoVent-19 Challenge has been an amazing demonstration of what’s possible when a global community of innovators comes together for the common good.”
