The portfolio for diagnostics consists of numerous standard products, as well as customer-specific solutions.

High-tech connectivity for better medical care

HUBER+SUHNER is synonymous with innovative, high-quality connectivity solutions based on a variety of technologies. Customers from the medical field appreciate our long-standing expertise, coupled with our knowledge in developing customer-specific solutions.

HUBER+SUHNER operates as a development partner to design complete connection systems from the ground up.

In the medical sector, HUBER+SUHNER focuses on value-added passive interconnections and serves customers in two main applications:

  • Microwave / RF ablation
  • Diagnostic

Our microwave connectivity solutions enable low-loss energy transfer for microwave and radio frequency (RF) ablation devices.

Microwave (MW) and radio frequency (RF) ablation applications

MW or RF ablation is a new method for treating cancer tumours and metastases. This minimally invasive method makes it easier to operate on sensitive areas, eases post-traumatic complaints and significantly reduces costs due to shorter recovery times.

As a result, this new operating technique offers excellent opportunities for widespread adoption in the market.

These minimally invasive interventions are complemented by constantly improving imaging techniques, which makes it easier to localise even the tiniest tumours or metastases. The great technical challenge is to channel the microwaves required for the ablation process from the generator into the inside of the diseased tissue.

The type of connectivity required is highly dependent on the particular application. Although RF ablation is currently used to treat primary tumours and metastases in the lungs, liver, kidneys and bones, the technique is also increasingly being used with other organs.

As a result, the employed frequencies, period of ablation and electromagnetic power to be applied vary considerably. Moreover, ergonomic considerations are of the utmost importance for the operating team.

Microwave / RF ablation: minimally invasive solutions

Innovative connectivity solutions are required for these new medical devices. HUBER+SUHNER has 60 years of experience in creating innovative RF components and solutions with specific knowledge on miniaturisation and high-power RF transmission.

For cardiovascular and RF ablation therapy equipment, we develop:

  • Cables with minimised loss in small diameters and maximised flexibility
  • Customised components to optimise the ergonomics of the solution
  • Peripheral connectivity integration
  • Custom solutions that allow cooling with various cooling media

Microwave / RF ablation: non-invasive solutions

Non-invasive methods allow the treatment of patients without the use of a scalpel. The removal of sweat glands with microwave energy is an example of such methods.

HUBER+SUHNER offers the following non-invasive solutions:

  • Low-loss interconnection to generator with flexible cables
  • Customised components to optimise the ergonomics of the solution

Connectors and cables for diagnostic solutions

With radio frequency, low frequency and fibre-optics technologies available from one supplier, HUBER+SUHNER serves the diagnostic market with both standard and customer-specific solutions.

We have successfully worked with industry-leading manufacturers for decades, especially within the imaging equipment sector. During this time, we have continuously optimised our materials and processes toward these applications and we serve the market today with hundreds of products, such as:

  • Non-magnetic connectors and cables
  • Hermetically sealed components
  • Semi-rigid cable assemblies

MW tomography and hyperthermia treatments

As it has done over the past few decades, HUBER+SUHNER will continue to develop solutions to equip the medical profession with reliable, highly accurate and innovative products, which will open up new perspectives in the field of medicine.

Some of these fields are:

  • MW tomography
  • Wireless patient monitoring
  • Hyperthermia treatments
